CTF to testify before committee on pension reform

Author: Derek Fildebrandt 2014/06/23

CALGARY, AB: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation’s (CTF) Alberta Director, Derek Fildebrandt will testify before the Standing Committee on Alberta’s Economic Future this evening to discuss Bill 9, otherwise known as Public Sector Pension Plans Amendment Act.

“The CTF supports the modest progress represented by Bill 9 and the PC government’s attempt to make the government employee pension plans more sustainable,” said Fildebrandt.

What: CTF’s Derek Fildebrandt to testify before Standing Committee on Alberta’s Economic Future
When: 7:30 PM, June 23, 2014
Where: The Coast Plaza Hotel & Conference Centre, 1316 33rd St. NE, Calgary

“Bill 9 moves the ball in the right direction, but it is still just tinkering around the edges that is unlikely to close the crushing $10.8 billion unfunded pension liability that we face. The CTF is proposing a bolder plan to the committee to honour the majority of benefits already accrued, but put pension plans on a stable footing moving forward,” said Fildebrandt.
